Moving to Dubai: Astrocartography and Your Relocation Chart
4 min read
Dubai lies at about 25.2°N, 55.3°E. Unlike Europe or North America, it is east of Ukraine: moving there from Kyiv rotates your chart's meridian about 24.8° east, from Kharkiv about 19°, and from Warsaw about 34.3°. Moving east turns the house frame to later zodiac degrees, so planets a few degrees after a cusp move back into the previous house. Dubai is also about 25° south of Kyiv, which on its own moves the Ascendant by about 12° on average and up to about 20°. Any MC or IC line between roughly 53.3°E and 57.3°E passes within about 200 km of the city.
Dubai on the map
Dubai sits at about 25.2°N and 55.3°E. At that latitude one degree of longitude is about 101 km, so any MC or IC line between roughly 53.3°E and 57.3°E passes within about 200 km of the city. That band covers the UAE from Abu Dhabi to the Omani border. If you are new to reading lines, start with How to Read an Astrocartography Map.
Dubai has become a destination for many people from Ukraine and Eastern Europe, especially in business, IT and finance. Astrologically it is unusual in this series in two ways: it is east of Ukraine, and it is much further south.
How far your chart rotates, eastward
| Moving from | Longitude | Shift to Dubai | Latitude change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kharkiv | 36.2°E | about 19.0° east | 24.8° south |
| Dnipro | 35.0°E | about 20.2° east | 23.3° south |
| Odesa | 30.7°E | about 24.6° east | 21.3° south |
| Kyiv | 30.5°E | about 24.8° east | 25.3° south |
| Lviv | 24.0°E | about 31.2° east | 24.6° south |
| Warsaw | 21.0°E | about 34.3° east | 27.0° south |
| Berlin | 13.4°E | about 41.9° east | 27.3° south |
Moving east: planets go back a house
Every other city in this series is west of Ukraine, and every guide says the same thing: planets a few degrees before a cusp move forward into the next house. Dubai reverses it. Moving east turns the house frame to later zodiac degrees, so the cusps move forward past your planets. A planet a few degrees after a cusp in your natal chart falls back into the previous house.
| Natal position (Kyiv) | Dubai, rotated about 25° east |
|---|---|
| Sun 10° past the Midheaven, in the 10th | Likely in the 9th: study, travel, beliefs |
| Moon just past the IC, in the 4th | Likely in the 3rd: daily contacts, siblings, local life |
| Venus just past the Descendant, in the 7th | Likely in the 6th: work, routine, service |
| Mars just past the Ascendant, in the 1st | Likely in the 12th: drive works behind the scenes |
These are examples, not rules; the relocation chart article explains the mechanics.
25° further south
Dubai is the largest latitude change in this series: about 25° south of Kyiv and Kharkiv. That has two effects:
- The Ascendant shifts on its own. For the same sky, the rising degree at 25.2°N differs from the one at 50.5°N by about 12° on average and up to about 20°. Combined with the eastward rotation, the Dubai Ascendant is often in a different sign from the natal one.
- Houses become much more even. At 50°N, quadrant houses can be very unequal: some cover a few degrees, others fifty or more. At 25°N they are close to equal. A northern chart with an overloaded 12th house or a squeezed 2nd house often looks balanced in Dubai.
The Barcelona guide describes the same effect on a smaller scale.
A worked example: Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha
Consider Anton, a hypothetical client born in Kharkiv, who works in finance and has offers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha. He wants his career to grow. Suppose his Jupiter MC line runs at about 54.5°E.
Abu Dhabi and Dubai are both in the strong zone; Doha is at the edge of the noticeable range. Because Kharkiv to Dubai is only about 19° east, Anton's Midheaven moves forward about 18–21 zodiac degrees. If his Jupiter sat a few degrees past his natal Midheaven, it could fall back into the 9th house in Dubai, which some astrologers would read as growth through international work and learning rather than through status. His Ascendant also changes a lot because of the latitude, so he looks at the full Dubai chart before deciding.

Lines to look for near Dubai
| Line near Dubai | How it often shows up |
|---|---|
| Jupiter or Sun MC | Fast career growth, visibility, money |
| Venus AC | Ease with people, style, a pleasant social life |
| Mars MC | Ambition and competition; burnout risk |
| Saturn IC | Home that feels temporary; pressure around residency |
| Pluto MC | Power and high stakes at work |

A short checklist for Dubai
- Confirm your birth time and the historical time zone of your birthplace.
- Note your MC and IC lines between about 52°E and 58°E, and any AC or DC curves crossing the Gulf.
- Build a Dubai relocation chart. Remember the rule is reversed: look for planets just after a cusp.
- Check the Ascendant sign carefully; latitude alone can move it by up to about 20°.
- Weigh the result against residency, work, housing and community.
For the big picture, see the astrocartography guide.
Key takeaways
- From Kyiv, Dubai rotates your chart about 24.8° east; from Kharkiv about 19°; from Odesa about 24.6°; from Lviv about 31.2°; from Warsaw about 34.3°.
- Moving east works the opposite way to moving west: planets just after a cusp move back into the previous house.
- Dubai is about 25° south of Kyiv, the largest latitude change in this series. The Ascendant can shift by up to about 20° from latitude alone.
- At 25°N, quadrant houses are far more even than at 50°N, so a lopsided northern chart often looks balanced in Dubai.
- Abu Dhabi is about 0.9° west of Dubai and shares its MC and IC lines; Doha is about 3.7° west and usually does not.
