Mars in Virgo 2026–2027: Dates, Retrograde and Meaning

Mars changes sign about every six weeks, but this time it stays in Virgo for months. It enters Virgo on November 25, 2026, turns retrograde inside the sign in January 2027 and does not leave for good until July 15, 2027. What Mars in Virgo means

Mars is how we act, compete, desire and defend ourselves. In Virgo, a mutable earth sign ruled by Mercury, that energy becomes methodical. Mars in Virgo does not charge in. It studies the problem, finds the weak point and fixes it.

What it is good for: work and craft, editing and quality control, health and fitness routines, organising, repairs, learning a technical skill, and any task where precision beats speed.

Where it goes wrong: perfectionism, criticism of self and others, worry that turns into physical tension, overwork, and arguments about small details that stand in for bigger frustrations.

The first pass: November 25, 2026 – February 21, 2027

The shift is noticeable because Mars arrives straight from Leo, where it met Jupiter on November 16. Big gestures give way to execution. Key contacts during the first pass:

• December 4: Mars squares Uranus (3°18′ Virgo–Gemini). Sudden changes, impatience and technical glitches; good for fast problem-solving.

• February 19: the Sun opposes Mars. This is the Mars opposition, when Earth passes between the Sun and Mars and Mars shines brightest in the night sky.

Mars retrograde in Virgo and Leo

From January 10 to April 1, 2027, Mars appears to move backward, from 10°26′ Virgo to 20°56′ Leo. Retrograde Mars slows momentum and brings back unfinished projects and old conflicts. In Virgo it reviews work methods, health habits and daily systems. After February 21 in Leo, it revisits pride, creative projects and romance.

The second pass: May 14 – July 15, 2027

When Mars returns to Virgo on May 14, 2027, it moves direct and gathers speed. It clears its shadow around June 9, after which the lessons of the retrograde can be put into practice without repeating them. Mars squares Uranus a third time on May 29, 2027 at 5°52′, and leaves Virgo for Libra on July 15.
